Blue Nest stores the information your household adds — calendar events, tasks, bills, photos, documents, and everything else you enter — in your private family workspace, hosted on Cloudflare infrastructure in the United States. Your data is only visible to members of your household and is never sold or used for advertising.
Sign-in and account data
Authentication is provided by Clerk. We store your email address and display name to identify your account and household membership.
Payments
Payments are handled by Stripe (web), Google Play Billing (Android), and the Apple App Store (iOS). Blue Nest never sees or stores your card numbers. To confirm a subscription we send the store a purchase token or transaction identifier, and for web checkout we send Stripe your email address and the plan you selected.
Who else receives your data
Blue Nest uses a small number of service providers to make specific features work. Each one receives only what that feature needs, and only when you use it. We do not sell data to any of them.
- Clerk — your email address, name, and sign-in session, so you can log in.
- Stripe, Google Play, Apple — purchase and subscription details, as described above.
- OpenAI — powers the optional smart features described in the next section.
- Google Maps & Google Places — when you search for an address or view the family map, the text you type and the map coordinates are sent to Google to return results and render the map.
- Expo — your device's push token and the contents of the notifications we send you. Expo relays these to Apple and Google's own push services to deliver them to your device.
- Resend — the recipient address and contents of emails we send, such as household invitations.
- Open-Meteo — approximate coordinates only, to look up your local forecast. No account or identifier is sent.
Smart features and AI
Family+ includes optional AI-assisted features. When you use one, the relevant text is sent to OpenAI to be processed and returned. It is not used to train models, and Blue Nest does not log the text you send. Specifically:
- Ask Blue Nest — sends the question you type, today's date, and a summary of your household (how many events, tasks, bills and so on you have). It does not send the contents of those records.
- Smart Capture — sends the note you paste or scan, up to about 2,000 characters, together with the first names of your household members so it can assign items to the right person.
- Bank statement import — sends the text extracted from the statement you upload, up to about 45,000 characters, so transactions can be pulled out of it. This includes the transaction details in that statement. If you would rather not send statement text to a third party, add transactions manually instead — every budgeting feature works without the import.
If your household never uses these features, nothing is ever sent to OpenAI.
Optional device permissions
- Camera & photo library — only used when you choose to upload a photo or document.
- Location — used when you turn on local weather (approximate location, coordinates are not stored), explicitly save a place with "Use my current location," or share your location one time. Family+ Live Family Locations is an opt-in feature: if you choose to share continuously (for 15 minutes, an hour, until end of day, or until you turn it off), Blue Nest collects your device location in the background for that chosen duration and shows a persistent notification while it's active. Your location is shared only with your own household's members, is never sold, and you can stop sharing or delete your location data at any time from Family Locations.
- Biometrics — used only to lock the app on your own device; biometric data never leaves your device.
- Notifications — used only to remind you about bills, events, and tasks you've added.
No ads, no third-party tracking
Blue Nest contains no advertising and no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell your data to anyone.
Diagnostics and product usage
We keep our own small record of crashes and a fixed list of product milestones so we can fix problems and understand which features get used. This is stored on our own infrastructure — not sent to an analytics company — but you should know it is linked to your account, not anonymous:
- Crash and error reports — the error message, a stack trace, the screen it happened on, your app version and platform, and your email address. Never the contents of your family records.
- Product milestones — a fixed list of events such as opening the app, creating a household, adding a first bill, or starting a subscription, with your email address and the date.
Both are deleted with your account. If you would like them removed sooner, email us.
Children and family members under 18
Blue Nest is designed to be used by a household, and households include children. A parent or head of household chooses what to add and who can see it. Depending on how you use the app, the information you enter about a child may include their name, birthday, photos, school items, chores, health or medication records, and — if you deliberately turn on Live Family Locations for their device — their location.
A few things we think parents should know:
- A child's information is entered by the adults in your household, and is visible only inside your household.
- A head of household can restrict what child accounts can see — money, health, documents, emergency information, and locations can each be locked from Settings → Household.
- Child accounts cannot delete records, and cannot edit bills, bank transactions, emergency information, or other people's profiles.
- We do not serve children ads, build advertising profiles, or share their information with advertisers. There are no ads in Blue Nest at all.
- Deleting your household deletes your children's information along with everything else.
Blue Nest is intended for adults to set up and manage on behalf of their family. If you believe a child has created an account without a parent's involvement, email us and we will remove it.
Your data, your control
You can delete your account and all household data at any time from Settings → Account, in the mobile app or on the web. Deleting the last account in a household permanently removes the household's records and uploaded files. You can also export your data from Settings → Data & Backup before you go.
