Location sharing questions
Does Blue Nest track my family in the background?
No. Nobody is tracked automatically. A location only updates when a family member deliberately shares it, and sharing can be stopped at any time. Saved places stay private until someone chooses to put them on the shared family map.
How long does sharing last?
You choose when you start sharing and for how long — for example a short window, until the end of the day, or until you turn it off. The app shows your current sharing status so it is never ambiguous, and continuous sharing is a Family+ feature.
What alerts can I set up?
Family+ members can be notified when someone arrives at or leaves a saved place, when someone stops sharing their location, or when a shared location goes quiet because it has not updated recently. Alert rules are private to the account that created them.
Can children be given location access?
A head of household can restrict the Locations section for child accounts from Settings, so younger family members do not see the shared map at all.
How do I know a location is current?
Blue Nest labels how recently each location was updated and marks stale positions as last known rather than presenting old data as live.
